New Zealand - Hahei to Rotorua
Hahei to
Rotorua
Day 9 - December 20th 2008
Today was finally going to be a day of snorkeling at Cathedral Cove, so I thought, but not today. Again, the weather was too rough so instead of spending a day in the water, we decided to take a few photos of the cove from above, and spend the day driving further south. It was becoming apparent at this point also that the majority of New Zealand was on holiday (the schools closed for summer break on the 19th) and places like this were really getting packed! In some ways it was a blessing in disguise the weather wasn’t ideal for us because the parking lot for Cathedral Cove was a zoo!
Cathedral Cove
It was raining when we arrived in the town of Rotorua late afternoon, so we hung out at camp, caught up on laundry and enjoyed the natural hot-spring fed hot-tub that was at our motor lodge. It stunk a little like sulfur but it was a nice break from the cold rain. At the lodge cafe, called The Fat Duck, we had our first delicious “Kiwi burger” of enormous proportions! The ingredients: egg, mushrooms, onions, beets, lettuce, tomato, burger & cheese on a thick wheat bun; the most delicious burger I’ve EVER had! yummy..
Cheers!
