a long
over-due update!
Eeek!! It’s been way too long since my last update, which was in late January ‘09. To recap, in December ‘08 my husband & I packed up shop to travel New Zealand and Australia which lasted 6 amazing months! I kept a written travel diary of our adventures throughout that entire time and I’m looking forward to getting back to writing and uploading lots of photos. It’s amazing just how many unforgettable things you can forget with so many things happening along the way.
In the midst of our travels abroad, we set up shop in Christchurch NZ for three months to work on more games for our clients. I had a great time living in Christchurch and loved the quaint, small-town feel of the largest city on the South Island. My only regret is not taking pictures of the yummy food in the cafes and the amazing friends we made while staying at The Poplars Apartment Hotel in Christchurch!
In April, we left New Zealand to tour the east coast of Australia for a few weeks and that was amazing! We road-tripped from Brisbane to Cairns and then farther north to the Daintree Rainforest. The Great Barrier reef and the Daintree Rainforest were the best highlights of the trip! I would go back in a heart beat to Cairns and spend another few months exploring the reefs and rainforest no problem! It was truly amazing and I can’t wait to share our photos! The bird life in Australia was unbeatable and my new favorite bird is hands-down the Laughing Kookaburra!
Snorkeling the Great Barrier Reef in Australia!
Lessons learned while abroad for 6 months? Working and traveling can be pretty demanding! Everywhere we went we had to consider what we were doing with our work equipment at all times. Some places are much better suited than others and especially in Oceania, the cost and availability of internet was no where near what the U.S had to offer. It made things challenging but certainly not impossible! We really did learn a lot from the experience.
In May we had a lot of prospective work on the table so we decided to come back to the states and spend our summer on the east coast in New Jersey, close to family. When we wrap up our work and have a big enough break, we’re looking forward to answering that question ‘where to next?”! It’ll be hard not to go straight back to that perfect weather we miss so much in LA! We will just have to wait and see where things take us!
Thanks for reading!!
